Special Event: See Fabergé ‘The Pear Blossom’
Sunday 9 November | The Commandery
The Commandery is open 11am – 4pm (last entry 3pm). See The Pear Blossom from 11.30am.
This is a unique opportunity to see a rare piece of Faberge ‘The Pear Blossom’ as seen and valued on BBC Antiques Road Show.
A one-off opportunity to see this precious ornament which is owned in trust by the Worcestershire Yeomanry Cavalry Charitable Trust. The ornament was gifted to The Queen’s Own Worcestershire Hussars, in 1904 by Georgina, Countess of Dudley, the wife of Major the Lord Dudley, the second in command of the Regiment, to celebrate the award of the Battle Honour ‘South Africa’ upon its return from the Boer War. The gold, diamond and jade jewel is a focal point for the members of the Regiment past and present, and has been called the rarest, most poetic manifestation of Faberge’s work.
The jewel is on display for one day only, to raise funds for The Worcestershire Soldier – a project to create a brand-new Worcestershire Soldier exhibition at The Commandery. The Jewel, as it is affectionately known by the Regiment, will have its own special guard from B (S, WWY) Sqn. The Royal Yeomanry and 54th (QOWWY) Sqn. Royal Signals the successor Squadrons to the Worcestershire Yeomanry.
Visitors can also enjoy a short, free talk about the Faberge Jewel, on the hour from 12pm onwards and there will be an opportunity to view plans for the new Worcestershire Soldier exhibition.
