Battle of Worcester Society Talk: The Nursery of the King’s Infantry – Reassessing the Civil War in Wales 1642-46

Professor Peter Gaunt is Senior Lecturer in History at University College Chester. He is also Chairman of The Cronwell Association. He is the third speaker in the 2019 Civil War Nights programme.

The talks take place in the historic Great Hall of The Commandery where seating is limited, so we would advise pre-booking for all talks.

The Commandery Cafe will remain open from 5pm until the talk starts should you wish to arrive early.

About the Speaker

Professor Gaunt worked on a range of archaeological excavations and surveys, as an architectural historian for English Heritage and as a researcher/writer for the parks and palaces division of the Department of the Environment. He has undertaken free-lance commissions including work on guide books, picture research and captioning, and on a number of exhibitions and interpretative strategies.

He spent a year living and working at Wellington in New Zealand as a post-doctoral fellow of the Victoria University, subsequently returning to academic work which has seen him hold teaching posts at the University of Wales, the University of London and the University of Chester.
