News release

For Immediate Release

Friday 26 April 2024

On Bank Holiday Monday 6 May, enjoy a relaxing day at one of Worcester’s most historic and beautiful buildings and gardens.

Visitors can head into the walled gardens for hour-long restorative yoga sessions led by Zoe Meachem. Her sessions will be slow and gentle practices suitable for all levels of experience including beginners.

She says, “I want to help people experience a calmer nervous system and how wonderful that can feel in our busy lives”.

Palm Honey Holistics will be at The Commandery throughout the day offering 20 to 30-minute taster treatments including massage, reflexology, and reiki for £15 per session.

Visitors can explore The Commandery, which was founded as a hospital around 1085 by Saint Wulfstan, the then Bishop of Worcester. The hospital was built around a much earlier Saxon chapel dedicated to Saint Gudwal – which was located to the south of the present building. Today, the building has wood-panelled Tudor rooms, a medieval Painted Chamber uncovered in the 1930s, magnificent Great Hall, and tells the story of Worcester’s role in the English Civil War.

Commandery Coffee will be open with homemade toasties, cakes, and its lovely canal-side views. There are also picnic blankets for visitors to use in the spacious gardens.

“We’re excited to offer this event here at The Commandery at a low cost to visitors. It’s a lovely way for people to enjoy the beautiful gardens in the springtime too!” Helen Manning, Events and Activities Coordinator at The Commandery.

General admission applies and can be booked online or purchased on the day. There is no additional charge for the yoga. Visitors can get free admission to The Commandery all year with a season or Worcester residents’ pass.
