SUMMARY:[Online Exhibition] Georgians: The Pride and The Prejudice
DESCRIPTION:Due to our museum closures during this time, we have decided to bring our exhibitions online so you can stay connected with your local art & heritage. Visit the our Exhibitions section of the website here ( http://www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk/collections/exhibitions/ ) to take a digital wander through our galleries – including highlights from Skyscape, Mayflower 400 & Georgians exhibitions.\nAbout the exhibition\nDelve into the age of the Georgians, explore the characters and stories of the age, see rarely-displayed Georgian artwork and beautiful pieces of Georgian costume, plus a first edition of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.\nThe Georgians lived through a time of contrasting shades. In many ways the age has been seen as one of splendour: the might of Empire, the dominance of the Royal Navy, the extravagances and luxuries of the wealthy, cultural expression, Industrial Revolution, beautiful landscapes, and an exploration of newfound political and religious freedoms. However, the Georgian way of life was built at the expense of the human cost of Empire, slavery, exploitation and violence –  the exhibition will also explore the lives of ordinary individuals who did not prosper like the middle- and upper-classes.\nImage: John I Harris’s A Prospect of Worcester from the East, c.1750 ©Museums Worcestershire\nThis exhibition was due to run 18 January – 28 March 2020.\n \n
