SUMMARY:Georgians: The Pride and The Prejudice
DESCRIPTION:18 January – 28 March 2020\nDelve into the age of the Georgians, explore the characters and stories of the age, see rarely-displayed Georgian artwork and beautiful pieces of Georgian costume, plus a first edition of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.\nThe Georgians lived through a time of contrasting shades. In many ways the age has been seen as one of splendour: the might of Empire, the dominance of the Royal Navy, the extravagances and luxuries of the wealthy, cultural expression, Industrial Revolution, beautiful landscapes, and an exploration of newfound political and religious freedoms. However, the Georgian way of life was built at the expense of the human cost of Empire, slavery, exploitation and violence –  the exhibition will also explore the lives of ordinary individuals who did not prosper like the middle- and upper-classes.\nSomething for everyone\nThere will be family-friendly activities available in the exhibition, and a range of events which will offer different perspectives to the exhibition.\nSaturday 25 January 2020, 11:30-12noon\nShowcase Saturdays! The Wonderful World of Georgian Theatre ( https://www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk/events/showcase-saturdays-the-wonderful-world-of-georgian-theatre/ )\n£3 for craft materials, drop in at our Activity Space.\nTuesday 11 February 2020, 1-1:30pm\nBite size talk: Georgians – The Pride & The Prejudice exhibition ( https://www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk/events/bite-size-talk-georgians-pride-prejudice/ )\n£3, book via telephone on 01905 25371 ( tel:0190525371 ) or pay at the Art Gallery desk.\nMonday 16 March, 11:30am\nDrop-in Curator Tour: A Grand Tour of the Georgians Exhibition ( https://www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk/events/drop-in-curator-tour-a-grand-tour/ )\n£3, drop in and meet at the Art Gallery desk.\n \nImage: John I Harris’s A Prospect of Worcester from the East, c.1750 ©Museums Worcestershire.\n \n
