DESCRIPTION:Sunday 9 November | The Commandery\nThe Commandery is open 11am – 4pm (last entry 3pm). See The Pear Blossom from 11.30am.\nThis is a unique opportunity to see a rare piece of Faberge ‘The Pear Blossom’ as seen and valued on BBC Antiques Road Show.\nA one-off opportunity to see this precious ornament which is owned in trust by the Worcestershire Yeomanry Cavalry Charitable Trust. The ornament was gifted to The Queen’s Own Worcestershire Hussars, in 1904 by Georgina, Countess of Dudley, the wife of Major the Lord Dudley, the second in command of the Regiment, to celebrate the award of the Battle Honour ‘South Africa’ upon its return from the Boer War. The gold, diamond and jade jewel is a focal point for the members of the Regiment past and present, and has been called the rarest, most poetic manifestation of Faberge’s work.\nThe jewel is on display for one day only, to raise funds for The Worcestershire Soldier – a project to create a brand-new Worcestershire Soldier exhibition at The Commandery. The Jewel, as it is affectionately known by the Regiment, will have its own special guard from B (S, WWY) Sqn. The Royal Yeomanry and 54th (QOWWY) Sqn. Royal Signals the successor Squadrons to the Worcestershire Yeomanry.\nVisitors can also enjoy a short, free talk about the Faberge Jewel, on the hour from 12pm onwards and there will be an opportunity to view plans for the new Worcestershire Soldier exhibition.\nMagical Faberge flower valued at £1 million – Antiques Roadshow – BBC\n\nFAQs\nWhat time can I see the Jewel?\nYou can see The Pear Blossom from 11.30am until 4pm, last entry at 3pm. There are short talks at 12noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm – there is no additional charge for the talks.\nDo I need to book?\nNo, booking is not available on this day. You can just come along any time between 11am and 4pm.\nHow much does it cost?\nEntry is the same as The Commandery’s general admission, but all income from admission on this day will be donated to the Worcestershire Soldier Project.\n\nAdult – £9\nChildren under 5 – FREE\nChildren 5-16 years old – £4.10\nFamily Ticket (up to 2 adults & 3 children) – £23\n\nDue to the Special Event admission charge there will be no free entry on the day for Worcester resident pass holders or Commandery season ticket holders. Worcester City Council will be donating all income from the Special Event admission charge to the Project.\nWhat is the Worcestershire Soldier Project?\nThe Worcestershire Soldier at the Commandery will see a brand-new exhibition of Worcester’s regimental displays continuing to bring together the collections of the Mercian Regiment Museum (Worcestershire) and the Worcestershire Yeomanry Museum.\nThe project has received a Development Phase grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund with additional support from the UK Government via the Townsfund and significant in-kind support from the two regimental museum partners and Museums Worcestershire.\nAn active fundraising campaign is also underway to support the development of the new exhibition at The Commandery with a target of £100,000 from grant making trusts, individual and corporate donations.
